What's next after the Critical Path Method?

The Critical Path Method (CPM) can generate resource requirements. But how do you create efficient and robust schedules when you don’t have enough resources, or when you don’t even know how many resources you will have?

Soon after its invention in the late 1950s, Critical Path found critique from its own inventors. In their 1959 paper published in ‘Proceedings of the Eastern Joint Computer Conference’, James Kelley and Morgan Walker pointed out that a critical path is necessary but not sufficient when resources are limited. And we know that resource shortages today are the norm in projects, not an exception.

To complicate matters further:

📌 All the required data about resources, tasks and dependencies are often not available upfront.
📌 The number of scheduling permutations even in a moderately complex project often runs into thousands
📌 Ground reality keeps changing, making it necessary to keep changing the schedules

It then becomes seemingly impossible to balance and effectively plan your resources for these thousands of activities that are in your project. How then can you optimize your project resources and create a resource schedule that can help you achieve your project objectives and deliver your projects on time and budget?

What if you could plan and optimize your resources seamlessly in your project?
